Monday, February 6, 2012 was the third annual Day of Service at Saint Elizabeth High School. The Day of Service provides students with the opportunity to serve the community, doing things like tutoring younger students, cleaning lake waters, and assisting senior citizens, among other things.
All students, staff and faculty attended a prayer service in the school gym before dispersing to assigned service sites. Sites this year included St. Martin de Porres School, St. Anthony School, St. Elizabeth Elementary School, the alameda Point Collaborative, FESCO in Hayward, the Alameda County Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, St. Mary's Center, Mercy Center, and Lake Merritt.
Working at the Alameda Point Collaborative, Lizeth Barrales '15 said: "It feels good to help others and to see that a small change can be so big. I try to follow Jesus' example and to put others before myself, because that's what Jesus did for us. It was an amazing experience."
