Saint Elizabeth High School Community
An urban Catholic college preparatory school offering a quality education to students in grades nine through twelve. Founded in 1921, the school is located in the historic Fruitvale district of Oakland, CA. We pride ourselves on being a community of "family."
The present enrollment of 250 is composed of African-American (45%), Latino (40%), Asian/Pacific Island (8%), Caucasian (2%), Native American (1%), and Mixed Race or Other (4%).
A significant number (51%) of the students receive tuition assistance which includes financial aid and scholastic scholarships. Close to half (48%) come from single parent families.
Mission Statement
Saint Elizabeth High School is a coeducational Catholic Diocesan high school founded in the spirit of Saint Francis and Saint Dominic serving a diverse student population from Oakland and surrounding communities. We are committed to fostering self-esteem and preparing students for college, challenging them to live and proclaim the Gospel message, achieve academic success and secure skills necessary for a life lived according to God’s plan.
Philosophy
Saint Elizabeth High School is a Catholic Diocesan high school that accepts, proclaims and gives witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The community of Saint Elizabeth High
School believes:

The Faculty
The teaching and administrative staff of Saint Elizabeth High School is comprised of twenty-eight dedicated professionals from diverse backgrounds. One members of the faculty has an earned doctoral degree, eight hold masters degrees, and one nationally recognized science teacher.
Admissions Policy
Each year the Saint Elizabeth admissions committee considers qualified applicants from approximately twenty-eight parochial, private, and public elementary schools. Enrollment is selective. Acceptance is based upon an applicant’s academic achievement, favorable recommendations of principals and teachers, performance on the high school placement examination, and a successful personal interview.

There are two semesters in an acedemic school year. Students must take seven courses per semester and earn 260 credits in order to graduate. A grade of D or better is needed to pass a course for graduation, but some colleges require a grade of C or better to qualify for entrance and students are encouraged to retake any courses in which they received less than a C.
