Athletics

The Athletic program of Saint Elizabeth High School strives to implement a hierarchical program of athletics for both men and women. The program includes a diversified physical education curriculum, open gym and field activities, and a system of highly competitive interscholastic sports.

However, in presenting such a broad and varied program, the Athletic Department realizes its role in the total school organization. The school’s philosophy, goals and objectives are of primary importance; therefore, the athletic program is  designed to function to help meet those goals and objectives.

The Athletic Department embraces the following values in attempting to achieve school goals and objectives.

1. The value of a program of both breadth and depth. Activity and or competition at appropriate levels.
2. The values of competition – the desire to win and the preparation to win as important aspects of human experience. Saint Elizabeth High School has several sports from which no person, willing to make a sincere effort, is “cut” or eliminated.
3. The value of understanding and playing within a rule structure- the letter as well as the spirit of the rules.
4. The value of sportsmanship – the ability to deal with the outcome of the contest. Here the difficult concepts of the “good winner” and the “good loser” are dealt with.
5. The possible personal and social values to be achieved through sports competition–leadership, teamwork, self-sacrifice, efficiency, analysis, decision-making, discipline, and hard work.
